This is a picture Daddy left around the Woodridge house in a photo album....???   How and who and when did he think of a Family Crest Emblem.... words inscribed are Huggins.
Uncle DD (James Charlie Morgan  -  brother of Howard Huggins, Helen (wife)  in MS??

This is a great Chicago visit... about 1966-67... Mama Dooley holding Tana!

Below,
Mama Dooley and a Church Friend...

and Low and behold.... this is Mama Dooley's cousin...from the Byrd and Molly Travis family tree..... she is Addie Travis Brookins!

The Travis Clan of Mississippi

I really don't have a clue as to when this picture was taken... or where??? What is in the background?  Mama Dooley (Pearlie Travis Morgan-Huggins) was born in 1900... and she looks really young... about 50-ish???   Daddy said that Mama Dooley was heavy-set as a young mother... that she had a sick spell and lost weight.  Also, she was a diabetic (I think... not diagnosed until her kidneys failed....years of 1930-40-50's.... she only lived to be 68 years old.)
Back in 2008 . . . . Wendell, myself, Lawrence and Lawry and Kandy made the road trip to Lexington Mississippi... and the town of  Tchula....  and then we looked for Balance-Due Road..... down yonder a ways..... and we had directions for Greenlawn Cemetery!  We found the Headstone daddy placed for his mother.......  The grounds were beautifully well-kept...

This is Howard Huggins Sr..... who married Pearlie (as a widow) in 1925.... He walked out on Pearlie just seven months after Howard Huggins Jr (my father) was born in Tchula MS.... and YES....There is a story as to WHY HE LEFT.....!!!
This is the old 1964-65 picture of Aunt Hattie...Uncle DD, Howard Jr, and Aunt Ruth all surrounding Mama Dooley in Chicago, IL.   (At DD's House)

Click above on the link.... of a great-inspiring blogger! An artifact is anything made, modified or used by a human culture.  I’m sure we think of archaeology as the study of stuff you find buried underground, but I think I’ll use this month to list all the old stuff…. Antique junk…keepsakes that my parents left in the Woodridge home…..a lot of artifacts above-ground!

My favorite is study of artifacts can be found in an old, old cemetery…like the gravestones, the hand carved headstones!  Archaeologically speaking, gravestones are a particularly valuable artifact in that one aspect of them is controlled: the date.  Since most people were buried shortly after they died, the date of death on the stone was generally very close to when it was carved.

Think Back.... When did You First Vote...???

So again.... WHEN DID MAMA VOTE ???
WHO DID SHE VOTE FOR ???

It would have been 1948 Truman or in the 1952 Election Year of  in which Dwight Eisenhower won the election for two terms...

Birth: October 14, 1890
Death: March 28, 1969
Term of Office: January 20, 1953 - January 20, 1961

Becoming the President:  Eisenhower was chosen to run on the Republican ticket with Richard Nixon as his Vice President against Adlai Stevenson. Both candidates campaigned vigorously. The campaign dealt with Communism and governmental waste. However, more people voted for "Ike" leading to his victory with 55% of the popular vote and 442 electoral votes. He ran again in 1956 against Stevenson. One of the main issues was Eisenhower's health due to a recent heart attack. In the end he won with 57% of the vote

INTERESTING TO ME.....  Eisenhower actually looks like one of my Grandmother's brother!!   Big mama herself (Martha Bell Sipuel)  was born in 1885 and would have been 67 years old in 1952....

the 1900 Census (I'll post a picture of this document)  verifies that the brother seated in this picture is named Scot Smith and was born in 1881. (married and a few other details were found!)

OK ..So.... my mother voted through-out ELEVEN OR TWELVE presidential voting cycles.... covering almost 60 years of American History
Truman
Eisenhower
JFK
LBJ
Nixon (Tricky Dick)
Ford
Carter
Reagan
Bush (One)
Clinton
Bush (Two)
OBAMA
and Lord willing.... she'll proudly cast a second term vote of Barack Obama in November of 2012

First Vote Cast in 1948 or 1952

In 1948 . . . If Blacks in Chickasha were allowed to register to vote....then at the age of 21... Mama did so either living in Grady County OK...

Or while living in the State of Illinois.......Cook County.
or in 1952 . . . Mama was having her third child... hahahah.... Mr Orville Thurston.... in Chickasha, Oklahoma.   And she probably voted in the November 1952 election... she and daddy, and Big Mama!

Back to My Mother's Voting Years......
